Fungi, More Shelf Mushroom Living On The Trace

My fascination with fungi and mushrooms and the such continues.  This one is interesting in that I see dried up shelf mushroom below the current healthy white crop, do you??

The Gate :: French Camp, Natchez Trace

.

At about mile marker 181 (mile markers start from the south and increase in number as you drive north), along the Natchez Trace a "stand" called the French Camp is found.  The "stand" was established in 1812, a private school opened in 1822 and that school is still in operation.  The gate/arbor was worthy of a photo.  Additional photos of this stop and our drive down the Trace can be found on Reflections From the Fence.

Shelf Mushroom, I Live On The Natchez Trace Too

Another fungi/mushroom found as Man and I wandered some of the Natchez Trace trails and walkways.  I am sure there is a "proper" name for this, I have always called it "shelf mushroom".

I Grow On Dead Limbs On The Natchez Trace

I love fungi and mushrooms and all the lichen we find as we walk in the woods.  I can barely walk by without taking photos.  This specimen, which reminds me of a viola pansy because of the shape, was found along the Natchez Trace when we were exploring the "Old Trace".

Red Berries

.
Found in the campground we stayed at north of Nashville, this lovely spray of red berries (not identified) measured about 12 inches in length.  Very special.
