Reflection's Flora and Fauna
A collection of my photos of flora and fauna, and maybe now and then,
something else that catches my attention and just will not let go.
Maybe even with little verbage, which is pretty hard for this gal.

Green-backed Heron and a Reflection

.
This guy was sitting in this small waterway one campsite away for several hours, undisturbed by all the traffic.  It really did not move much when I walked down to take photos. Identification tentative, made from my copy of "Birds of North America", National Geographic Society.

Yep, I think you are correct. I cross-checked in my Sibley Guide and it is a good match. It says it is about 18" long, uncommon along edges of marshy or wooded streams and ponds, where it crouches in shadows waiting for fish to swim by. Nests and rosts singly in trees. Solitary and somewhat secretive. ... Note stocky shape ...
Interesting bird. I love watching them. I asked for bird books for Christmas this year!

Size fits, plus the movement (when it did move) was very much like that of the great blue heron.

The second photo is amazing, the reflection almost clearer than the live bird.

Really nice catch. I love you caught him close up and the reflection. "Thumbs up"

Awesome picture. I don't think I have ever seen one. Lots of the Great Blue Herons at Samish Island but none of these.

You've got a winner here! Great reflection pic. I always admire bird pics. Really nice job, Carol.
