Viewed during a long ride up and over La Sal Mountain, near Moab, Utah on May 2, 2010. Several mule deer walked right across the roadway.
You can tell it is a mule deer and not a white tailed deer by looking at his tail, see, the mule deer has a black tipped tail and huge "Mule-like" ears.
This first photo is out of focus, this gal (no antlers), was back in the brush in the shadows. But, you can really see the "mule" ears and the black tipped tail.
This second photo has much better detail, and you can still see the large ears and the black tipped tail.
A mule deer doe can weigh 125–175 pounds, they are not small animals.
